Hello Pine Ridge Family!
The Pine Ridge Bluebird Team is on the lookout for passionate volunteers to help monitor and care for our thriving bluebird population.
Today our team oversees 109 bluebird nesting boxes spread throughout Pine Ridge, and it’s an incredibly rewarding way to connect with nature. Our efforts began around 2000 and were recognized by the Citrus County BOCC with a commendation in 2003. You will see our nestboxes in almost every DRA (drainage retention area) in Pine Ridge. Whether you’re a bird enthusiast or just looking to contribute to something meaningful, this opportunity offers a great chance to make a difference.
We’re seeking 4-5 dedicated residents to join us in keeping our bluebird program flourishing. Many hands make light work, and with your help, we can continue to nurture this beautiful wildlife in our community!
Here’s what the role involves:
- Box Check-ups: Ensuring the nesting boxes are in top shape
- Reporting: Notifying the maintenance team if repairs are needed
- Nest Inspections: During breeding season checking out those adorable nests (the fun part!) Typically we check each nestbox every 7-10 days from early March to mid August and with a few more volunteers this should only take an hour or so for each session.
- Counting: Monitoring eggs and hatchlings throughout the season. Don’t worry – we will train and help you get started.
- Data Collection: Tracking and recording progress to see how our bluebird population is thriving
- Seasonal Clean-ups: Preparing the boxes for the next round of nesting
