Last year, we sent you a survey on Traffic & Roadway Safety in Pine Ridge. This is a sum-mary of the results and the emerging way forward to help solve your concerns. Survey Summary
Response: We sent 3300 surveys and received 740 replies for a 22% response rate.
Hazardous Encounters: Of the 740 replies, 75% stated they had encountered a hazardous traffic or roadway safety situation. The top 5 hazardous situations occurred while:
1. Driving: 69%.
2. Walking along the road: 42%.
3. Riding a bicycle: 23%.
4. Crossing the road: 18%.
5. Jogging along the road: 8%.
Top 5 Concerns:
1. Excessive speed: 58%.
2. Poor road conditions: 36%.
3. Increasing traffic volume: 16%.
4. Cut through traffic: 12%.
5. Illegal passing: 11%.
Top 5 Recommended Solutions:
1. Enforcement: 35%.
2. Road Repair: 27%.
3. Speed Bumps/Rumble Strips: 15%.
4. Gate the Community: 9%.
5. Add Stop Signs: 9%.
Way Forward
The Pine Ridge Roads Committee is working with the Pine Ridge Board of Directors, trans-portation engineers, and county and state officials to examine the feasibility and potential effective-ness of various solutions.
